Our Friend DJ Tommo by Chris Brophy

If ever there was a person who knew everything about the radio industry, DJ Tommo was the man. The ideal candidate for a job as "radio expert", some may say.

DJ Tommo was everybody's friend, from fellow DJ's to listeners. We knew Tommo was living the dream from the moment he set foot inside our studios; the smile on his face and tone of his voice said it all.

One of our funniest memories was when a manager played the sound of a dripping tap for an hour. This was because a presenter failed to show up when his washing machine leaked. DJ Tommo was most upset and rang the studio thinking it was being flooded out...We had to explain it was a recording!

"DJ Tommo's Happy Show" said it all and summed up exactly what he was all about; fun, laughter and happiness. If he wasn't on air himself, he'd be on the phone during everybody else's show demanding a shout out to the special people in his life, at Ingleside.

His involvement is what community radio is all about, inclusivity, engagement and raising the aspirations of local people. He brought so much humour and richness to programmes and that's what made him so unique.

I personally feel very priveleged to have met such a great person, who will be sadly missed by myself, fellow DJ's and the many thousands of Salford City Radio listeners he has entertained over the years.

On our launch day just 3 weeks ago, he cried and said that it was the happiest day of his life as his dreams had now come true. On behalf of Salford City Radio, I'd like to say we are honoured to have been such an important part of Tommo's life, and equally; we will have fond memories of the person who has been a special part of our lives for quite some time.

Rest In Peace Tommo; A DJ on earth, a DJ in Heaven.
